Handmade Memories Newsletter
September
- October 2008
"It's not shopping, it's retail therapy". We really would
like to help you out with your therapy, and it was so much fun last time,
we are going to do it again. For every $35 you spend during the month
you will receive a ticket for a drawing at the end of the month worth
a $50 Gift Certificate. Please feel free to enter as often as you want.
Weaverville
Creative Escape - We had a ball - every year it seems to be more and
more fun. We got a ton of projects done, lots of games played, and prizes
awarded. There were sooo many hours of visiting and laughing, shopping,
eating, swimming and sitting in the sun. All around enjoyment!! I'm only
sorry so many had to miss it because of the worry about the smoke. As
it turned out no one had a problem, but if you have breathing problems
I can see why you would have worried. Maybe next year! We are already
planning next year's Creative Escape. I'll keep you posted.
Humboldt
County Fair - Congratulations to all of Handmade Memories fun lovers
who entered great projects in the county fair! We all had a great time
and came away with lots of ribbons. Come in and check out the bulletin
board to see everyone's pictures. We are planning on what we are making
for next year. The plan is to make a project a month.
Noro Sock
Yarn - It's here!! Yes you heard me right, after waiting over 6 months
we finally got our sock yarn. It's gorgeous. If you haven't been in to
see it yet, you should before it's gone.
Monday Night
NOT Football - Monday Night Football
starts Monday the 8th of September and guess who hates football -- you
got it -- me! So although I'm not usually open on Mondays I will be
open Monday night during football season from 6:00 - 9:00. Jennifer
will be there the first few weeks knitting Felted Clogs for Christmas
presents, so now is the perfect time to get her help knitting your clogs.
Christmas
Workshop - Speaking of Christmas, this would be a perfect year to
make your Christmas gifts. In a tough economic year it's good to remember
that any handmade gift always means more than even the nicest store-bought
one. My plan is to start staying open late one night every other week
for a Christmas Workshop. I will have patterns for easy, fast projects
that you will be able to make quickly for Christmas gifts. I will be open
Sept. 9th and 23rd & Oct. 7th & 21st from 6:00 - 8:30.
Beginning
Knitters - Another addition to our new season line up is a
night every other week for those of you who want to get some knitting
done but think you might need some ongoing help. We will be open Sept.
11th & 25th and October 9th & 23rd from 6:00 - 8:30 These
will be our scheduled nights to try this out, and if we find that you
are interested, we will do it every other week during the winter. Grab
a friend and come learn to knit or master some more advanced skills.
Market bag
- Since everyone is working on ways to conserve resources and grocery
stores around the country are charging for paper and plastic bags, I assume
it won't be long before they do here too. We have the perfect way for
everyone to do their part - make your own market bag. I have a few free
patterns in the store and of course I know where you can get lots of cool
yarn. Check the contests below and you can see the other incentives we
have provided.
Contest
- The winner of our summer top contest was Barbara. She made a fantastic
multi colored top and won a $50 gift certificate. Congratulations Barbara!!.
This fall we are having three contests, each with a different deadline.
1st - Market Bag, due the last day of September; 2nd - Socks,
due the last day of October; 3rd - Christmas Stocking, due the
last day of November. As each contest ends we will display the entries
for a week for everyone to vote on and then announce the winner. The winner
in each category will receive a $25 gift certificate. This will
allow more people to try their skills at knitting (or crocheting) and
also you can have a head start on Christmas presents.
Midnight Free For All - or as some of us like to call it "All
You Can Knit Night", will be Sept. 12th & Oct. 3rd. Our midnight
knit is once a month on a Friday night. We get together and knit and visit
until midnight . You are welcome to bring a snack to share if you would
like, but we have no real rules. Just come, get to know other knitters
(of course we also have people that crochet, weave & spin) and have
a good time. If you don't get there first you might want to bring a lawn
chair or pillow to sit on.
Wet Felting
- Carin is coming back for her last class this season so this is your
last chance to make those gorgeous felted bags that you have seen us working
on. We already have a bunch of people signed up, so make sure that you
get on the list. Since she is coming from out of town again for this class
she is asking for a $20 non-refundable deposit. Don't miss this one -
you will love it! (October 25th)
Come join
us at our knitting table - We are set up so that whenever you want
to knit and visit with someone while you are knitting you can. There is
always room for one more so come on down and knit (or crochet).
Wear your
Halloween costume in on the 31st of October
and receive
35% off books and 20% off everything else!!!

MAKE SOME TIME FOR YOURSELF -
